Collaboration with indigenous communities and stakeholders is integral to the Foundation's way of working. KFA meets regularly with the Kimberley Land Council and Aboriginal communities in the North Kimberley.
In 2011 the Foundation is sponsoring the first Kimberley-based community project targeted at recording rock art. KFA’s Aboriginal training & cultural education program Developing skills in cataloguing and interpreting Aboriginal rock art, flora and fauna, will train locals to record and catalogue the rock art, flora and fauna using scientific methodology and traditional knowledge. The Department of Indigenous Affairs WA has generously co-funded this project.
Partnering KFA is Kimberley TAFE, Conservation Ark (Royal Zoological Society of SA) and the Kalumburu and Majaddin communities in the North Kimberley.
KFA’S Continuity and Change: archaeology, rock art and chronology in the northwest Kimberley project works closely with the Kandiwal Aboriginal Cooperation and the local aboriginal team participates on all aspects of the project.
